A Copperphone is Born – Tim DeLaughter of The Polyphonic Spree Puts The Copperphone Front and Center

Where did this Copperphone idea start? Well singer/songwriter Tim DeLaughter of The Polyphonic Spree wanted to use the classic telephone vocal sound in his live set up but hadn’t found a consistent and effective way to do it. Fellow bass player and engineer Mark Pirro thought having a mic dedicated to the task would be the perfect solution and off to work he went, experimenting with different combinations of components and materials until the very first Copperphone was created. Putting it to the test, Tim used the mic alongside his regular vocal mic during a show in 2003 and fell in love with it. Ever since then the Copperphone has been a part of his regular set up on stage.
